Fishers Freedom Festival

The Fishers Freedom Festival is an event for the whole town to get together and celebrate Independence Day. Held annually during the last weekend of June, the Fishers Freedom Festival takes place at Holland Park and features a 5K walk/run, a parade, arts & crafts, local food (Allen William’s favorite is the pork tenderloin), live music, business vendors, police and fire department demonstrations, a cornhole tournament, fireworks and much more. It’s a truly American summertime event and serves as a great tradition for Fishers residents.

The Fishers Freedom Festival is free of charge, but participants are encouraged to donate nonperishable foods, cleaning supplies, school supplies, and toiletries upon admittance. The donated items then go to local non-profits such as Third Phase, the Good Samaritan Program of Hamilton County, and the Roy Holland Backpacks for Kids program. Participants may also donate craft items to be used in the children’s arts & crafts tent at the fest.

Throughout the year, the Fishers Freedom Festival Committee conducts various events and fundraisers to fund the Fishers Freedom Festival and also to help out local non-profits and scholarship funds. Fishers Library

The Hamilton East Public Library is one of the backbones of the Fishers community, with a newly-renovated branch centrally located off of 116th Street in the Thomas Weaver Memorial Complex. With branches in both Fishers and Noblesville, Hamilton East is one of the most impressive public libraries in the area, and the two branches work in association with one another to share resources and materials. Visit the library’s extensive collection of periodicals for all your research needs, or stop by when you’re looking for the latest bestsellers. The Hamilton East Public Library prides itself on its wide variety of young adult and children’s literature, as well as its collection of music, movies, audio books, and online resources.

In addition to reading and entertainment materials, the library has a number of programs and facilities for both adults and children of all ages, including computer labs, quiet study rooms, meeting rooms, book discussion clubs, story times, home schooling classes, computer classes, literacy programs, summer reading programs for students, creative writing classes, and more. Like most Fishers families, Allen Williams and his kids enjoy frequent visits to the library to stock up on reading material and Saturday night movies. Fishers Parks

The town of Fishers boasts a number of parks and trails for individuals and families to enjoy. Fishers’ park system consists of sporting facilities and playgrounds, as well as nature preserves and trails. The parks provide fun, contribute to the beauty of the town, and offer a great place for friends and neighbors to meet for activities. In fact, you’ll probably run into Allen at one of these parks, watching a ballgame, playing with the kids, or walking the dog. No matter what part of Fishers you live in, there’s a park nearby.

Billericay Park is a baseball park at 126th Street and Promise Road. With eight baseball diamonds, a playground, a splash park, and a large community building, the whole family can enjoy the game at this state-of-the-art park. The walking trail and adjacent woodlands provide the perfect locale for a peaceful walk.

Brooks School Park, located along Mud Creek at 116th Street and Brookschool Road, features a playground, loop trail, soccer fields, basketball courts, and picnic shelter. This park has plenty of space for enjoying a variety of activities, and it’s an ideal summer picnic spot.

The Cheeney Creek Natural Area is a nature preserve complete with a hiking trail and a large fishing pond. Located near 106th Street and Hague Road, Cheeney Creek is the perfect place for the nature lover or bird watcher to take a time-out from life’s hustle-bustle.

Cumberland Park, at 106th Street and Cumberland Road, is a soccer park with loads of green space, a walking trail along Mud Creek, and a community building available for rent.

Eller Fields is a baseball park within walking distance of several neighborhoods along Eller Road. In addition to baseball fields, this park features a playground and picnic space.

The Fishers Heritage Park at White River is a beautiful park that flanks the banks of the White River at 106th Street and Eller Road. Enjoy the park’s wooded area, walking trail, historic gardens, and the newly-restored Ambassador House.

Harrison Thompson Park is yet another soccer park, complete with a picnic shelter, playground, and walking trail.

Hoosier Woods is a lovely natural area near 121st Street and Hoosier Road. Visit the park’s wooded hiking trail and wetland observation deck.

Mudsock Fields is a football park at 131st Street and Brook School Road. Take in the beautiful fall colors of the surrounding trees as you enjoy the big game during football season.

The Olio Fields baseball park, located at 126th Street and Olio Road, is a beautifully manicured park, complete with a playground and concession building.

The Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve is a Fishers jewel. Consisting of 127 acres of natural wildlife, as well as 5 different hiking trails, this preserve is the place to visit when you want to get away from it all and explore nature. Ritchey Woods is known for its guided tours and wildlife education programs, and the knowledgeable staff has made it their objective to teach the Fishers community’s youth about environmental responsibility and conservation.

The Roy G. Holland Memorial Park is Fishers’ oldest and most frequented park, located northwest of the Fishers Town Hall. Holland Park has facilities for baseball, soccer, basketball, and sand volleyball, as well as a playground and plenty of green space. The park also features a community building, picnic shelters, and a walking trail.

The Fishers Trail and Greenway System is a network of walking/running/biking trails designed to connect Fishers’ neighborhoods, parks, schools, and other places of interest. When complete, the trail system will offer a “green” alternative to driving that will benefit the environment and help residents stay in shape. The trail system also connects to the Monon Trail, making a bike commute into Indianapolis a possibility!

Bring your canine friends to the privately owned Pierson Bark Park, located near 131st Street and Promise Road in Fishers. The park features walking trails, 4 acres of green space, a pond, and separate areas for small or elderly dogs.

One of Fishers’ most popular landmarks is the Fishers Train Station, located just west of 116th Street and I-69 in the Thomas A. Weaver Municipal Complex. The train station, which served as a depot along the Nickel Plate Road rail line, was around before the town of Fishers itself was established. And although Fishers has come a long way since its early days as a farming community along the railroad, the train station itself serves as a reminder of the town’s roots.

Home of the Fishers Chamber of Commerce and the Hamilton County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the train station is also part of the Indiana Transportation Museum, which is based in nearby Noblesville. The train station and rail line are used for various events between Fishers, Noblesville, and downtown Indianapolis throughout the year. In August, the State Fair Train provides regularly scheduled transportation between the Fishers Train Station and the Indiana State Fair Grounds. For kids growing up in Fishers, riding the State Fair Train is an essential summertime experience!

Another historical landmark in Fishers is the Nickel Plate Bar & Grill, named after the railroad and located east of the train station near the original tracks. This local pub was built in the 1880s and was a popular meeting place and rest area for folks passing through on the railroad or awaiting goods from the depot.

The Fishers Train Station could once again play a significant practical role in the lives of Hamilton County residents, as there are tentative plans to utilize the railroad and train station as a commuter line running between Fishers and downtown Indianapolis. All aboard!

Hamilton Town Center

The Hamilton Town Center outdoor mall is one of the Fishers area’s newest gems. Opened in 2008 at the corner of I-69 and State Road 238, this innovative mall features a streetscape design that combines shopping, dining, entertainment, and picturesque outdoor space all in one venue. It’s a great place for an afternoon with friends, an evening out with the family, or just to get your shopping done.
